Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: The entity known as “chronic prostatitis” is nowadays defined as “prostatitis syndrome” or

more recently, as “chronic pelvic pain syndrome”. This chronic syndrome affects men of a wide range of age.

Microorganisms can only be isolated in 5 to 10% of the patients; most of the patients are treated empirically.

With the recent introduction of a new classification for this disease, a more effective approach for the

evaluation and management of the patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome has emerged.
